Product Design methodology. Basic

Product Design methodology. (Engineering Related)
Everyday I will add few things about this.

Steps.
1. Idea Generation.
                        Techniques:- TRIZ, Brainstorming, 6-3-6 method, incubation,morphological analysis,
Using the product, random word technique, random combination.

2. Concept generation and concept selection -
           Techniques: Sketching, 2d rendering, 3d realistic rendering.
           Tools Used: Pencils, Sketch pen, crayon, dry pastels, Photoshop, Coral draw, Rhinoceros.

2a.   Pugh's concept selection methodology, weighted ranking method.

3. 3D modeling and Detail Design.
           Cad Software: Solidworks, Pro/E, NX, CATIA.
Comparison between software like solidworks, pro/e, NX, etc

4. Prototyping.
           Hand made prototypes, Rapid Prototyping.

5. Manufacturing.
           Depends on Material - Plastic - Moulding, Sheetmetal - Punching and bending, welding.

6. Sales.


Other things to know.
1. Material.
    a. Sheetmetal - Stainless Steel, CRCA(cold Rolled Cold Annealed, CRS, Aluminum)
    b. Plastic-  ABS, PC, etc
    c. machined parts
2. Manufacturing Methods.
   Punching & bending,

Questionnaire For enclosure design.
1. Application. (corrosive, clean, harsh, submerged, etc)
2. Ratings that need to be adhered to NEMA, UL, CE, etc.
3. Industry. (aero, automobile, military, etc)
4. Quantity. (Decides material)
5. Size
6. Shape (Too simple -sheetmetal, Curved or complex- Plastic.)
